In the world of Internet searches, YouTube is quickly rising to the top as one of the most powerful search engines. People enjoy creating content that can be shared with others for a purpose. With the rise of this powerful tool, you too will be using YouTube for learning a task and helping others.
Your first assignment will be to pick one of the following topics to learn how to do:
1. Learn how to tie 2 different knots of a necktie.
2. Learn how to twirl your pen around your finger.
3. Learn how to fold an origami goose/swan/duck (or you can find another cool looking shape to fold but must be approved by teacher first).
4. Learn how to play a song using your guitar in garage band.
5. Learn how to line dance (partner project)
6. Learn how to perform a cool card trick or other magic trick.
Your goal will be to find several tutorial videos that explain how to complete one of these tasks. You will then need to practice your task throughout the next week. We will have a short demonstration of your newly acquired skill later next week (participation points).
The second component to this project will be to produce your own YouTube video to upload and help others. You will need to set up your own YouTube channel at home (if you do not have internet at home, please see Mr. Burklund). After our demonstrations next week, we will be creating video PSAs about content that we have learned in class. Each student will create a 2-4 minute PSA about a topic we learned in class.
1. Fair Use & Copyright
2. Cyber Safety
3. Digital Footprints
Your PSA should be a commercial for people looking for basic information about the topic you pick. The video must include an introduction, 3 main points (you can have more if you wish), and some kind of a wrap-up or conclusion. You also need to have some kind of a way to cite your information (either verbally or by putting the info in your video somewhere). Remember, your goal would be to inform someone looking for information on one of the 3 topics.
You will use iMovie to create your PSA. You should try to be creative with these projects as they will eventually be posted online. Remember that since we are posting these online, the videos need to pay attention to copyright.
