HONORS~
Today we completed Session 8 in our Word Power books. Students then began presenting in groups on the assigned fairy tales. MASS MEDIA~ Students continued to edit video footage and work on the mock stories. We then went through and looked at various techniques for editing footage and ensuring that stories are visually interesting. ENGLISH 10~ Students started today by working on a worksheet dealing with the Stanford Prison Study and the Milgram Experiment. After completing the worksheet, students watched a short 35 minute video about the two famous experiments. Students should be prepared to discuss the examples in class. HONORS~
Workday. Students had the block to finish working on critical analysis presentations of the fairy tale assigned and collaborate with groups. Permission slips are due by Wednesday this week to watch the movie Pan's Labyrinth. MASS MEDIA~ Students continued working on the mock stories that we will be critiquing on Wednesday this week. Tomorrow we will be focusing on editing. ENGLISH 10~ We started the block today by handing in final papers for The Crucible. We then began having a discussion about our next unit for Lord of the Flies. As a class we went through the intro notes and discussed themes, symbols, and the concept of good vs. evil. Please remember to bring in a picture of yourself tomorrow that you can cut out for our survivor game. HONORS~
Students had today to work on the reading for the critical analysis of fairy tales presentation. Reminder to check the iCal to keep up with the reading in BLT. MASS MEDIA~ Students worked on storyboards for the first mock news story. We will continue filming on Monday. Rough presentations are due on Wednesday. ENGLISH 10~ Students had today to finish editing and making revisions to the paper for The Crucible. Papers will be due HONORS~
Today we took a short grammar quiz out of the vocabulary books. We then went on to have a discussion about the critical analysis of Little Red Ridinghood. We talked about looking at the story through lenses and how the stories all differed yet kept the same tale-type. Students were put into groups and assigned a fairy tale category to read and research about. Groups will present next week on the fairy tales assigned and provide a critical analysis of the stories. MASS MEDIA~ We watched several examples from previous newscasts done by students and had a discussion about the good and the bad of each. Students were then assigned the task of creating their own 2-3 minute story. Each student must create his/her own story but can work with partners to get the work done. ENGLISH 10~ We had a brief discussion about proper citations and the the class had 30 minutes to work on the papers. Students who were finished after 30 minutes printed off rough drafts and we b HONORS~
Today was a reading day to focus on analyzing fairy tales. We used the critical analysis books to read through the section on Little Red Ridinghood. Be sure to pay particular attention to the tale types and consider some of the critical lenses we discussed in class. MASS MEDIA~ Today we took notes on how to structure a newscast using the analyzing news video. We stopped and talked about different news story examples along the way. Students should consider thoroughness, fairness, newsworthiness, and representation of the world when we start to create stories. We then worked on a reading assignment and worksheet called "what is news?". ENGLISH 10~ We spent time going through notes on how to write an effective introduction. We discussed examples in class. We also spent time talking about how to find the theme of a work of literature. See the handout on the crucible page if you are confused. Today we had a quiz on Chapters 1-12 of The Book of Lost Things. We then had an excellent discussion of the book and the connection to the tale-types and stereotypes we have been discussing in class. We then proceeded to present on our Literary Criticism models. Students took notes on the different lenses and models. MASS MEDIA~ We attempted to finish our "Up Close and Personal" interviews and post them to the weebly sites. Students should also post the scripts and questions to the same weebly page. HONORS~ Work day to complete presentations on literary criticism school of thought and to work on the reading assignment for the long weekend. MASS MEDIA~ Work day to complete filming for the interview project. ENGLISH 10~ Work day to finish finding quotes and examples from the play. On Tuesday we will write our introductions together in class. We also completed the pronoun review in our grammar books. Long weekend (early out tomorrow and no school on Monday)
HONORS~ Today we had a short discussion of the book and proceeded to start working on Literary Theory presentations. We will be presenting our critical analysis/literary theory presentations on Tuesday next week. Students had the rest of the block to work on reading The Book of Lost Things and completing presentations. MASS MEDIA~ Today we continued working on our interview projects. Students should compete storyboards and script before beginning to film. Be sure that you let your interviewee know the topic of the interview but you should not reveal the actual questions you will be asking. We will use today and tomorrow as workdays and our goal will be to post the final products to our weebly sites on Tuesday next week. ENGLISH 10~ Now that we are finished with our Crucible tests, we will begin writing our first paper. Please see the handout on the Crucible page regarding the final paper. Remember, your goal will be to find different themes within the play and make a connection to what Arthur Miller went through in the 1950s.
