English 10~
Today we finished watching the movie about Edward Murrow and took a quiz after.  We corrected the quizzes in class.  After finishing the movie we spent some time talking about the connections to the play.  We used the textbooks to read about the 1950s and McCarthy.

Digital Citizenship~
Mrs. Meyer visited our class today to talk about digital footprints.  She showed us several examples of how we are both actively and passively leaving footprints online.  We also spent some time googling ourselves.  Groups had some work time in class for the presentations that will be taking place on Friday.

Our class did not meet today because of the PLAN test that all sophomores took today.  We will meet again tomorrow to finish the movie we started on Monday.

Digital Citizenship~
Today we started work with Fair Use and Copyright.  Students did some preliminary research before breaking into groups to complete the "yearbook" scenario in Unit 5.

Just a reminder to everyone that the high school conferences run tonight from 3:30-7:30 in the high school media center and north commons.

English 10~
Today we started watching the movie Good Night, and Good Luck, which is a depiction of the events surrounding Edward Murrow and the downfall of Joseph McCarthy.   Our LOTF papers were also handed back today.  If you have specific questions about your grade, please see Mr. Burklund before or after class.

Digital Citizenship~
Today we posted our first blog assignment on Chapter 1 to our websites.  We discussed Chapter 1 in small groups and then proceeded to work on reading Chapter 2.  The blog post assignment can be found on the Little Brother tab under Digital Citizenship.  The Chapter 2 blog post will be due tomorrow at the start of class.

English 10~
Today we watched a 45 minute History Channel video about that Salem witch trials and completed the study guide posted on The Crucible page.  #27 of the guide was especially important as we added 6 different possible causes of the witch trials.  We followed up the movie with a discussion about Joseph McCarthy and the 1950s.  We watched a short 10 minute YouTube video about McCarthy and his downfall.  On Monday we will be watching the 2005 film Good Night, and Good Luck which portrays Edward R. Murrow's helpful television appearances denouncing McCarthy.

Digital Citizenship~
Today we went back to the computer lab to add a blogging component to our websites.  We will be using these blogs to write about the book that we are going to start reading called, Little Brother by Cory Doctrow.  The book is available as a free ePub download.  The link for the download can be located on the main page for Digital Citizenship. We went through and looked at the tools in iBooks and discussed how to take notes and mark pages.  The first homework assignment will be to write a blog post about chapter 1.  You should write a summary of the chapter, write what you liked AND what you didn't write, and include 3 important character quotes.

English 10~
Today we continued our work on Verbs.  We will continue to practice with transitive and intransitive verbs tomorrow.  We also continued our discussion of Hysteria and how it may have been a factor in the actual Salem Witch Trials.  We need this information as Arthur Miller believed the trials were very similar to the events that Joesph McCarthy set in motion.  We watched an episode of the tv show "House" that deals with mass hysteria and physical effects.

Digital Citizenship~
Today we skipped ahead to start working on building our classroom weebly sites.  Students received a username and password for a student weebly account that Mr. Burklund will be monitoring.  Students set up and published their pages yesterday.  The webpages are not currently set to public.  As soon as students have created enough content and it has been checked by Mr. Burklund, the websites will have the opportunity to go live.

Today we finished presentations for "The Crucible" and corrected our pronoun exercises.  We also proceeded to work on verbs.  We will continue our practice with verbs tomorrow.  We also listened to a recording of Johnathan Edward's sermon, "Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God."  We wrote down images and phrases that were striking from the sermon and we will continue to work/discuss these tomorrow.

Digital Citizenship~
Today we took a test on Units 1-3 and corrected them in class.  We attempted to get set up on some social networking school sites but we ran in to some technological problems along the way.  We will attempt again tomorrow to straighten out the problem.

Today we continued our quest to wrap up Unit 3.  Students created and shared quizzes on everything that we have done in class so far.  20 question quizzes were due during class.  Students also shared paragraphs that written about the dangers they face in different online environments.

We finished the day by creating our own avatars for a safe online picture and joined the class schoology website.  We will continue to work with this website through this week and possibly further into the future.
